Second Workshop of the Theory-Experiment Collaboration for Hot QCD Matter

This is the second workshop of TECHQM ("Theory-Experiment Collaboration for Hot QCD Matter"), a joint working group of theorists and experimentalists, which aims to further the understanding of hot QCD matter through detailed, quantitative analysis of heavy ion collision experimental data and theory, together with the dynamical modeling which connects them.

The complex dynamics of relativistic heavy ion collisions dictates the need for extensive theoretical modeling as the bridge between experimental observations and underlying properties of the hot QCD Matter. TECHQM aims at a comprehensive and systematic validation of different approaches to the modeling of heavy ion collisions.

The TECHQM web site can be found here.

The first TECHQM workshop, held at Brookhaven National Laboratory in May 2008, identified conceptual and modeling uncertainties which presently limit the accuracy with which conclusions can be drawn about the properties of QCD matter, and which are amenable now to detailed quantitative study.

The agenda of this second TECHQM meeting is focused on surveying the progress made since the first workshop at BNL in the two areas singled out at the meeting: collective flow of bulk matter and high pT energy loss. Presentations at the meeting will report the progress that has been made toward the formulation of a general theory of second-order viscous relativistic hydrodynamics and the creation of validated codes for two-dimensional expansion. They will also report progress toward the understanding of the differences between parton energy loss schemes in the context of a simplified medium geometry ("QCD brick"). Extensive discussion of the new results will follow the presentations. The second part of the meeting will involve detailed discussions of the work plans of the two TECHQM working groups.

Contributed talks and suggestions for the workshop agenda are welcome. Attendance does not imply or require membership in a working group.

This TECHQM Workshop will follow the Electron-Ion Collider Collaboration Meeting, which will be held December 11-13 at LBNL. Details of that meeting, together with registration information can be found here.
